Vectren, Manning announce 2005 "Bright Ideas" grant winners
November 22, 2005
Avon, Ind. - Vectren Chairman, President and CEO Niel Ellerbrook, Indianapolis Colts quarterback and PeyBack Foundation President Peyton Manning and Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Suellen Reed recognized central Indiana teachers who received grants as part of Vectren's Bright Ideas program Tuesday during a news conference at Avon Middle School.
"Public education dollars are increasingly strained. At the same time, we all want teachers with adequate resources shaping our future leaders," said Ellerbrook. "We are pleased to be able to help our state's teachers implement some truly creative ideas."
Bright Ideas, a $100,000 classroom enrichment grant program sponsored by Vectren and Manning's PeyBack Foundation in conjunction with the Indiana Department of Education, offers up to $500 to individual teachers to assist with local educational needs.
"It is important to have qualified, energetic teachers in the classroom," Manning said. "I'm pleased to be part of a program that rewards teachers from around the state for going the extra mile and challenging our students."
Bright Ideas grants are available to Kindergarten through grade 12 teachers in public, private, or parochial schools which are located within the Vectren Energy Delivery service territory. Applications were due to Vectren in October and winners were selected from a panel of community and employee judges.
"This private-public partnership equips some of our state's best teachers with new ideas to make learning more rewarding," said Reed. "Indiana is fortunate to have a corporation like Vectren assist with education funding. It is also impressive that the PeyBack Foundation invests the time to recognize the good works going on in the classroom."

* Doug Reynolds from Martinsville's East Middle School
