New Orleans Holiday Party

On Monday, December 12, 2011, the Louisiana Children’s Museum hosted a fun holiday celebration for the students of Joseph J. Davies Elementary School through the generous support of the PeyBack Foundation. With 450 students, teachers, and parents in attendance, the museum was bursting with excitement. The students ranged from grades kindergarten to second and were each able to participate in hands-on activities, as well as explore the 30,000 square feet of the museum’s exhibit space, which included their most popular exhibits: Little Winn Dixie, Kids’ Café, and Art Trek.
This annual celebration has been a successful collaboration between the museum and the PeyBack Foundation for more than five years and continues to be an event that the museum staff looks forward to every year.
“We love being able to participate in this extraordinary event every year,” said Stacey Sharer, the museum’s Community Engagement Coordinator. “We look forward to providing the students with creative holiday activities to do at home with their families and to be able to share with them the magic of the season as they explore the museum, especially with the addition of our newest exhibit, Festival of Trees.”
Each student was able to create a paper chain of their favorite holiday memories, a paper bag puppet to tell stories with, a snowflake to take home, and a collaborative snowflake that will be on display in the museum throughout the holidays. Plus, everyone was able to enjoy a healthy boxed lunch provided by Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana. As the day drew to an end, the excitement for the students continued as they prepared to exit the museum. Each student was handed a sleeping bag, along with a book to read.
Through the PeyBack Holiday Party, the museum has had the opportunity to reach more than 2,100 students over the past years and is looking forward to reaching many more.
