"This is a home game," senior Tyler Carroll said after running for 117 yards and two touchdowns to lead Fishers to a 31-6 win over Noblesville in the PeyBack Classic IX opener.

"We're wearing our home jerseys. We have to play it like it's a home game. We have to protect our turf."

The Tigers, who had lost twice to the Millers since the Fishers school reopened in 2006, broke open a close game by outscoring Noblesville 21-0 in the fourth quarter. The Millers had cut a 10-0 halftime deficit to 10-6 and had the ball, but the Fishers defense held, and its offense started clicking.

"They played great all night long," Fishers coach Rick Wimmer said. "We gave up one big play, but I just thought defensively, we played very, very well. It took a little while for our offense to get untracked."

Carroll got the Tigers going with a 56-yard run on the second play of the second quarter.

"There was a lot of talk about who could score the first (touchdown)," Carroll said. "People were talking to me about it. Everybody wants to get it, but we just really wanted to score."

Fishers appeared headed for a 17-0 lead to open the second half, but Noblesville recovered a fumble and drove 81 yards, with quarterback Jake Bates going in from the 8. But the Tigers defense allowed the Millers only one first down the rest of the game.

"The bottom line is, we didn't block and tackle," Noblesville coach Lance Scheib said. "We were uphill the whole daggone time, and all of it was self-inflicted. Not that Fishers didn't cause it, because they did, but the majority of our problems tonight were us, and we have to improve ourselves before we worry about anybody else."

Colts quarterback Peyton Manning performed the ceremonial coin toss and stood on the sideline during the game.

"All the high schools are excited," he said. "We have by far our biggest crowd that's participated in the PeyBack Classic and this is the ninth one. Close to 30,000 tickets have been sold so we're really excited about that. We've raised a lot of money and these kids are going to have a lot of fun and say they did something nobody else did, including the Colts."
