Peyton was proud to spend the past week honoring several members of the military and their families on his first USO tour in Europe. Stops included visits to naval air bases and camps in Spain, Italy, Afghanistan, and Germany. Peyton was joined by Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson and wide receiver Austin Collie, All-Star pitcher Curt Schilling, members of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, and “American Idol” alumni Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young. All were guests of Admiral James Winnefeld, the ninth vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Peyton was moved by the experience and grateful for the opportunity to thank so many members of the military for their service. “I just want to say thank you for having us here,” said Manning. “It’s a real honor and pleasure for me to be here and for all of us to be here. I just can’t thank all of you enough from the bottom of my heart for protecting our country. We truly appreciate all the sacrifices you make.”
“The one thing that has always motivated me playing football is being accountable to my teammates. What’s really driven me for the past 16 years playing football is being accountable, doing my job at the very best that I can to be accountable to help my teammates. I know that’s exactly what you believe in, as it’s really what the military is all about.”
In addition to signing autographs, posing for pictures, and answering questions, Peyton also threw autographed footballs into the crowd.
